There is no doubt that physiotherapy is currently one of the most sought after means for treatment. Whether it’s the treatment of joints, muscles, ligaments, tendons, tissues, etc. people consider physiotherapy as a methodology for getting cured. Whether it’s physiotherapy for back pain, posture correction, post-operative rehabilitation, the methods have solutions for all. But as they say, even the best of things has pitfalls the remedial technique isn’t spared either. This is no way denotes physical therapy as not a reliable healing method, rather makes you aware of certain points that you should know before getting the treatment. The following explains both aspects:

First, let us understand what is physiotherapy?
Physiotherapy or physical therapy is the science of wellbeing. By that we mean it a practice where an expert or therapist aims to rehabilitate, restore and maximise a person’s physical conditions. It deals in the overall fitness of the patient by diagnosing the problem and use methods to rectify it and strengthen ...
... the being.

PROS:

No external pain
Unlike surgical operations, PT doesn’t inflict external pain. It doesn’t interfere with the natural healing process and makes it viable for the patient to heal gradually without undergoing further agony. A therapist understands the patient’s bodily conditions and then prescribes exercises accordingly. There are chances you will recover faster here.

Mobility restoration, balance and posture correction
There are cases where you’ll be unable to walk, sit, lie or move properly, thus physical therapy comes to help. The strengthening exercises help to restore mobility and the overall balance. These therapeutic exercises also help in posture correction of the body and improve the coordination.

Controls ageing issues
The ageing body has a constant declining health which comes with a lot of complications and risks as well. Conditions like Osteoporosis and Arthritis are something that occurs with old age. Physiotherapy can help battle such conditions and increase the body’s resistivity. Whether it’s upper back pain treatment or recurring joint pain, PT does provide relief.

Great for post-op recovery
If you get a knee or hip replacement or underwent a major surgery, you’re at times left with immense pain. Therapy comes at various stages where the physician examines your body and prescribes the methodology in stages. It’s a brilliant way to alleviate pain from the body.

Great for athletes
It’s clear that PT keeps your heart, lungs and cardiovascular health extremely healthy. This is crucial for athletes as they have a fitter and more flexible body which is mostly going through a rigorous motion. Therapy helps his/her body build the endurance needed to excel in the sport.

CONS:

Although there are side effects of Physical therapy, there are some unavoidable factors, some of which are:

Cost factor
It’s an absolute Zen of a method for healing but it’s an expensive method of treatment. In a developing country like India, it’s not in everyone’s reach to afford physiotherapy as not everyone can’t dole out a lot of money especially to be treated under an expert therapist.

Time factor
Physiotherapy doesn’t restrict to only a few days of treatment it takes multiple sessions for a person to come out completely healed. Some may not have the patience to continue with the therapy and look for other modes of treatment.

Meeting the patient’s satisfaction
At times it’s the communication that matters a lot. A patient’s mindset needs to be understood by the therapist which he/she at times fails to equate. Suppose if a person seeks physiotherapy for back pain and the therapist is not able to convey the diagnosis or cure correctly, it leads to total dissatisfaction in the former.

That being said, the pros definitely topple the cons of physical therapy, and it goes without saying that despite having drawbacks, it’s 10/10 considerable means to become healthier.

If you’re looking for an apex institute for lower back pain treatment without surgery, then visit Vardan, a healing foundation set up by the Time Group that practices FMT or Functional Manual Therapy an advanced form of physiotherapy.
