In the search for an understanding of the culture of the French people, I watched a movie bearing the title, ‘Amours et Turbulences’ that was released in 2013. A reflection of the movie helps to understand some aspects of the French culture as discussed in this essay.
The movie entails a guy, Ntoine, who was a lawyer from New York and traveled back to France for a round of job interviews. He was shocked to realize that he sat next to his ex-girlfriend, Julie. The flight is seven hours long, and they had to talk to each other. Julie was just about to be married in the next four days to a man she was pregnant by, and the two had a strained relationship that did not end well. The two met and possibly reunited by finding themselves sitting next to each other on the flight.
The movie reveals much about the French culture regarding relationships and romantic affairs where people can be together today, but things get sour, and they separate. However, the circumstances that made them break up are not fully justifiable to deny them a reunion after some time. For the two characters, it was easy to reunite, though initiated ...
... by circumstances, since they had a deep sense of understanding and love between themselves. Everyone could tell that the two people were still very strong in love despite the circumstances that led to their parting ways.
It is evident from the movie that, dating in France is completely different from other cultures since the actors demonstrate that French people have exclusive relationships and not just dating. As such, the two characters reveal the true meaning of a relationship to French couples since even after a long duration of separation; they still had a love for each other. I have learned that dating and relationship approach taken by French is different from that of Americans.
