A Comprehensive Guide to the Annapurna Base Camp Trek
Among the list of popular treks in Nepal, the
Annapurna Base Camp Trek has a special place for its ease and a shorter route. Even though it is not a high altitude trek like others, there is no dearth of spectacular views, natural landscapes, wildlife and distinctive experience of the local culture.

What to expect on the ABC Trek?
While on the trek, you will have an encounter with the majestic Annapurna range, Hiunchuli, Machhapuchhre, and Dhaulagiri. Apart from the flower spread valleys, you will also get a chance to view some of the most beautiful and high cascading waterfalls, hot springs that are bound to relax and heal your aching body. You will also learn about the local culture of the place and visit the famous Ghandruk museum.
The Trek Route
The trek starts from Kathmandu. You can either fly or take a bus to Pokhara. From Pokhara, you need to drive to Nayapul and then trek to Ulleri and to Ghorepani. You can trek to Poon Hill for the sunrise and get back to Ghorepani to trek to Tadapani. Go to Chomrong to Dobhan to Deurali and to the famous Machhapucchhre Base Camp or the MBC. From the Machhapucchhre Base Camp, you will trek to the Annapurna Base Camp and then trek to Bamboo and then to Jhinu Danda. You can enjoy the hot spring here and move forward to Ghandruk. Reach Nayapul and finally drive back to Pokhara.
Some important facts about the Annapurna Base Camp Trek
1. The Annapurna Base Camp Trek is a grade B trek so it can be easily taken up by a fit individual. This moderately difficult trek does not require a special fitness level.
2. You will need two trekking permits to trek the Annapurna Base Camp Trek---Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) card and Trekkers’ Information Management System (TIMS) card.
3. The highest altitude that one reaches in the ABC trek is 4190 m.
4. On average, one has to walk for 4 to 6 hours a day which can go down to 3 to 4 hours and can go up to 6 to 7 hours a day.
5. Autumn (September to November) is regarded as the best time to trek the Annapurna Base Camp.
6. You can choose to go solo on the Annapurna Base Camp Trek. You do not necessarily need to hire a travel agent for help.
7. There are no ATMs on the trekking routes so you must ensure you have enough Nepalese currency before you start the trek.
8. While battery charging facilities are available on the route, it is advisable to carry your own charger as you might have to shell out $1-$2 for this purpose.
9. Internet services are also accessible on the ABC trek route but their quality cannot be matched to what you might get in your own country.
10. AMS or altitude sickness is for real. It is advised to be prepared and take enough precautions for it.
