Everyone loves champagne, so personalised champagne is even better! Imagine your friend unwrapping his or her present and thinking: "Oh wow! It's a bottle of champagne!" and then reading the label which you had personalised with your very own thoughtful message. They would probably be speechless. There's nothing as luxurious and indulgent as a bottle of champagne and it has an interesting history.

For example, did you know that the reason champagne is thought of as such a sophisticated drink is because in the 1890s, champagne houses such as Laurent Perrier launched 'celebrity' advertising campaigns?

On the company's posters carefully worded text described how their champagne was drunk by lords, ladies and royalty! The posters were a big advertising hit and soon the middle classes in England and all over the world were eager to take a sip of champagne and they were also willing to pay high prices (in keeping with its status) for it too!

Early Champagne Marketing

At one point several advertising houses even tried to appeal directly to women, describing how many ladies and duchesses enjoy drinking champagne ...
... on posters and even making one of the first examples of personalised champagne labels ever: a label which was specially printed with an image of Marie Antoinette who was seen as something of a martyr to the French people at the time.

To really market champagne towards women some houses designed personalised champagne bottles which depicted pictures of romance! They were intended to capture the female imagination and they worked, women began buying more champagne at a time when the market was previously dominated by men. Some personalised champagne labels even featured weddings, along with other celebrations that were thought important to the fairer sex. One champagne label even pictured the baptism of a baby!

Champagne Cocktails

Pop! Off comes the cork and out, come the glasses! The sound of a cork bursting out of a champagne bottle is a familiar sound, a happy sound and one which reminds almost everyone of happy, giddy times. That's why personalised champagne makes such a good gift and why so many people love drinking it.

If you really want to make your party exciting and also make your champagne go further you might consider making some champagne cocktails instead of drinking it neat. To some people the idea of mixing champagne with anything else is a dirty thought indeed and those people will enjoy it best sipped slowly from a long stemmed glass but for party loving cocktail swiggers there are loads of great cocktail recipes out there.

One famous way to serve some personalised champagne as a cocktail is the Kir Royal. Just pour the personalised champagne in to a chilled glass and add a light drizzle of Cr de Cassis then stir it gently. You could then garnish your drink with a twist of lemon peel.

For a beautiful sunset yellow Bellini, squeeze some peach puree in to a wine glass, splash in some personalised champagne and then stir it gently to blend the flavours, you can also make an equally delicious raspberry Bellini this way using a raspberry puree.

To make a traditional Bucks Fizz simply combine champagne and orange juice. For a real treat you could try a Chateau Cardillo which is another champagne cocktail that tastes amazing. To make a Chateau Cardillo, you'll need that bottle of personalised champagne that you bought your best mate, some pear juice and some black raspberry liqueur, simply put a little pear juice and raspberry liqueur in the champagne flute and then top it up with the champagne. They're simple and incredibly yummy!

Champagne In The USA

In the USA any wines which were made since 2006 have to be from the French region to have the word 'champagne' printed on the bottle's label. Even 'champagne style' has been disallowed from usage because the EU thinks that otherwise customers could be misled.

Incredibly though, for all of the many years right up until 2006, wines which were calling themselves champagne were being produced all over the United States. Fake American champagne was especially produced in California and even some ciders and Sherries were being sold by reputable companies, with the word champagne proudly displayed on their label.

These days almost all the countries in the world have agreed to not produce any wines and call them champagne, including a village in Switzerland which shared the famous French Region's name. Before the village agreed to stop using the champagne name they were selling 110,000 bottles of wine a year and afterwards, once they stopped used the 'magic word' they were only selling 32,000. It's a sad story but we're guessing that sparkling Swiss wine just doesn't have the same ring to it as fine French champagne!
