5 Effective Tips For Writing A Sound Debt Settlement Letter

For people who are currently knee deep in debt, writing a debt settlement letter can be a good move to eliminate the outstanding balances. However, writing a truly sound letter is indeed challenging, especially for those people who are not familiar with business writing. Here are 5 tips I would like to share with you to make your settlement offer more convincing:
Tip 1: Be straightforward
The letter should be short and straight to the point. You don't need to make your settlement proposal into a few pages as the creditors are not interested to read such a long letter. The best way is to get your subject matter clear at the first place. It is advisable for you to include your account number in the main title.
Tip 2: Be honest
When you are facing financial hardship and you fail to pay back your debt, you should just face it! You need to accept the fact and inform your creditors honestly through your letter. Let them know your financial position. Before the creditors accept your settlement offer, they will also assess your current situation. They have their way to find out the truth. Hence, you don't ...
... need to lie to them.
Tip 3: Be precise
You need to be certain. Find out how much you can afford to pay back and when exactly you can do so. Write down the exact settlement amount in the letter.
Tip 4: Be polite
You are completely not allowed to show your anger and depression in your letter. You mustn't use any threatening word. No matter how stressful you are, you must put your ideas into words in a polite manner. Never convey the message that you will ignore your debt is your offer is rejected.
Tip 5: Be consistent
From the beginning till the end of the letter, you are reminded to be consistent. You need to organize your points and make sure there is no contradiction. Besides, you may need to write more letters if your creditors counter offer you. Hence, you must make sure that you stick to your previous offer. Don't simply change your mind.
Last but not the least; you are reminded not to "over promise" your creditors if you don't have the financial ability to do so. The debt reduction process will not be successful if you can't pay back the exact amount as you have offered in the letter. It will only make your credit worse.
