As a patient of your doctor's office, which type of answering service do you prefer? Do you choose speaking with someone or leaving the message behind on a machine? I'm sure that you prefer speaking to someone. Leaving a message on a machine or a voice mail can make you worry that someone will even pick up the message within a reasonable amount of time. If that person is out of the office because of vacation, you message can sit there until they return.

An answering service is the process of speaking to an actual person when you need to reach the doctor's office. The service can be used during the lunch time. It is so much nicer to speak with someone during the midday than to hear the message say that they are at lunch and will return. You probably only had a few minutes to call anyway. Now you have to make another call back to try to reach them. You have made two calls but still have not spoken to someone who can help you with your problem.

When you speak to someone at the answering service, you feel as though you are talking to someone in the office. You know that the answering service is being paid ...
... to answer the phones so they will do a better job of it than a machine would do. They usually sound very warm and friendly on the phone which is great when calling your doctor's office. No one calls the doctor when they are feeling wonderfully.

When you leave a message, you will get a phone call back from either an office person or the doctor himself or herself. They will have a general idea about why you called. There is only so much room on the voice mail tape. An answering service captures all of the information the doctor needs to sound like they have an understanding of why he was calling. This begins the conversation between the patient and the doctor on a more even tone. If the patient has to explain again what he already explained, it can be a little disappointing. Getting on the phone and jumping right to the reason for the call helps you save time also. If you are getting help for someone by calling, you don't want to be there all day just waiting. The service will express their empathy and then get you help right away.
