Dealing With “no Partition Is Bootable†Error In Windows
Quite often you attach external hard drive to your system. There is a provision of attaching external hard drive(s) to your system in MS Windows OS based computer and you can access them concurrently along with master hard drive. These external hard drives are slave to master hard drive i.e. the main hard drive. These are generally used to transfer data from one computer to another or to take backup of existing data.
But sometimes attaching external hard drive proves to be problematic. In some cases, after you attach an external or secondary hard drive to your computer, system doesn't recognize main drive. The drive gets displayed in BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) or My Computer. Under such scenario, one is not able to access the hard drive partitions and come across partition loss situations. In order to recover deleted partition you need third party professional data recovery software.
As a first step you can try disconnecting all the secondary hard drives, expect the main drive, to troubleshoot this issue. Reboot the system after disconnecting the drives. This method may work in some scenarios and may sort ...
... out your issue, but not always. So in case the issue remains unsolved, you should try connecting the drive to another system, with same version of Windows operating system installed. Here you may see your hard drive in the Disk Management, but it is not displayed in My Computer. The disk may display file system as RAW and whole hard drive space as unallocated.
Moving on to next step you would be running CHKDSK utility on your hard drive, for checking the file system and hard drive integrity, but you may come across below error message instead and the disk checking gets terminated with the following message:
No partition is bootable
The structure of hard drive seems fine, but while accessing the drive, you get further error message stating:
No partition found or selected for recovery
All these Windows OS errors indicate only one thing that there is severe corruption in FAT and NTFS file system. After file system corruption, operating system cannot locate data and system files on the drive. Thus your system can not boot and the hard drive partitions become inaccessible.
In such situations, you need to format the hard drive and reinstall operating system to rewrite the file system. We know that reformatting lead to erasing of all previous data. But you can recover deleted partition data using substantial Windows data recovery software. Professional data recovery tool is capable of recovering files and folders from hard disk partition on which components like "File Allocation Table," "Boot Sector," "Root Folders," "Partition Table," "Master File Table," etc. are missing.
