Ibiza has been famous as a mecca for clubbing for over 25 years now. You will not be short of nightlife options when you visit Ibiza; however, if you manage to surface during daylight hours, you will find your efforts rewarded.

Here is a taste of some of the day-time activities to enjoy on Ibiza.

Ibiza first became popular with British and other European hippies in the 1960''s, before the package holiday had really gained mass popularity and the island became a favourite destination for family holidays and ''having it large''. The hippy heritage is still in evidence across the island, most obviously in the famous hippy markets of Es Cana, on Ibiza''s east coast.

Wherever you are staying on the island, it is well worth taking a drive during daylight hours down to Ibiza town. Known as Vila d''Eivissa, or just Vila to the Spanish speaking locals, the old town is a UNESCO World heritage site. The walled old town has narrow cobbled streets with bags of atmosphere, and is accessed via an ancient drawbridge. The 13th century Santa Maria Cathedral is located in the old town.

The modern part of Ibiza ...
... town hosts two of the islands largest and most famous nightclubs; Pacha and El Divino. Just south of Ibiza town is the nightclub Space, famous for the outdoor terrace that hosts afternoon clubbing.

Ibiza has a beautiful coastline, as do all of the islands of the Balearics, and a great way to appreciate this - beyond the few minutes glance you might be lucky to get out of your plane window on the way in ? is to take a boat trip out to Ibiza''s sister island, Formentara.

If you prefer your time on the water to be spent on nothing larger than a pedalo, you can still get back to nature in that trusty steed of the dry land, the automobile. Take a drive to the inland spring at Es Broll and relax among the pines and olive groves; and shower yourself in historic culture at the same time as you explore the Moorish irrigation channels.

Es Vedra is another highlight as a day trip option. The island of Es Vedra is the source of much local legend and myth. Variously believed to be the tip of the sunken Lost Continent of Atlantis, a UFO hotspot, and the island of the Sirens in the Homer epics, Es Vedra actually produces a strong magnetic field due to being composed of rocks with a high mineral content. Spooky!

There a variety of options when it comes to car hire Ibiza (or boat if you''re heading for El Vedra)) to reach these attractions, with local outfits like Ritmo Cars bookable online, not a bad idea to save wasting precious holiday time when you actually arrive in Ibiza. Bonny Kominek loves the Balearic islands and has been going to Ibiza for years. Getting car hire Ibiza is essential, you can get a cheap solution at Ritmocars.co.uk.
