Have you had a medical question but didn't want to pay a co-pay just to get it answered? Sometimes it is not very convenient to see your primary care physician. Either their office hours are not convenient for you or the question you have is something that can wait. Consider calling your doctor or calling a medical call center. Typically these centers are with your insurance company. It is a great way to save money for yourself. You won't have to pay a co-pay to get your question answered. It is also a great way for the insurance companies to save money also. If you are making a free call to the medical call center, you are saving a doctor's visit that the insurance company pays for. It makes more sense no matter what way you look at it.

Typically these centers are manned by Nurses. They can give you general medical advice and also work as a resource to help you get your question answered. Not sure what the ailment is? You can speak with the nurse at the medical call center and go through a list of symptoms to narrow down the problem that you are having. The nurses can put you in the right direction. This ...
... is especially great if you are not from the area or not familiar with the medical treatments that are available to you. No need to hunt around for the yellow pages looking at the list of doctors but not knowing which one is right for you. If you are not from the area and have a tough time asking people about a doctor, the center helps you choose.

A medical call center is the latest in the effort for a way to save money from going to the emergency room. If you are unsure of what to do for treatment, you can find out what you should be doing to treat the problem. If they don't know, they will refer you to someone who does know. Most staff members follow up on the people whom they have helped to see if they actually received medical treatment. This helps with a little accountability. Some people just need to have a fire put under them to be motivated.

Don't worry about missing your office hours for your doctor. You can call the medical call center to ask all the questions you need to. They are there to help you.
