Compact Flourescent Lightbulbs are your friend. Not only do they use about a sixth of the energy of incandescent bulbs, but they also last a lot longer. They used to be a lot more expensive, but they can now be bought very cheaply indeed.

Use a low power desk lamp. Turning off the top light when you are working at a desk, and using a small desk lamp instead uses a lot less energy, and creates a more relaxed atmosphere with fewer distractions.

Avoid vampire draw. Many appliances use a small amount of power, even when they are not switched on. Unplug devices when you are not using them, or use multi way adaptors with separate power switches for each plug.

Do not waste energy when cooking. When cooking smaller items, you should use the microwave whenever it is appropriate to do so, as it is quicker and uses less energy. Also, boil water in the kettle before using it for cooking, as heating cold water on the hob is incredibly wasteful.

Use your computers power saving functions. You can save a lot of energy by setting up your computer to go into standby mode whenever you leave it alone for a few minutes. ...
... When you return to your computer, it will quickly come back to the same state, and you will not risk losing any work.

Upgrade your displays. If you still have an old cathode ray tube television or computer monitor, you should trade it in for a modern flat screen device, as these use a lot less power, and take up a lot less space to boot.

Turn down the temperature on your washing machine. Washing machines are notoriously power hungry, but there are now several types of detergent that will wash your clothes perfectly well at lower temperatures such as 40 or even 30 degrees.

Use cheap electricity wherever possible. Power is a lot cheaper during non peak times, and many electricity companies have a scheme in place to help you take advantage of this fact. You can save a lot of money by washing dishes or drying clothes at times when energy demand is low. Jessia Szychowski is the author of this article about electricity companies.
