Countertops are a huge chunk of the budget for any kitchen remodel. Choosing the right countertop service should be based on a combination of budget, functionality, and anticipated use. Natural stone is durable, but needs to be sealed on a regular basis. Laminate is cheaper, but it is less desirable and can often be damaged or nicked easily. Granite is the hot product right now in home design because of the wide variety is colors that are available and amount of product that is on the market. If you have enough in your budget, then granite kitchen countertops are a great investment, and will help add value to your kitchen and your home.

Granite comes in a rainbow of colors and multiple designs. The most popular choices are black, white, and earth colors, such as green. You can also find granite countertops with a mixture of colors, such as brown with specs of gold. When choosing the color, it is important that you keep the color scheme of your kitchen in mind. For example, if you have dark colored walls, then black might not be a good choice because of the dark shades. However, black would look great if ...
... you have light colored walls because it would make the countertops a focal point.

As well as the color, granite countertops are also made in a high gloss finish, which is called "in vogue". However, if you know that your countertops will experience a large amount of wear and tear, then you might want to consider a more understated matte finish. It is just as nice as the high gloss, but will withstand more damage. In some cases, it is also more affordable than high gloss.

Shopping for granite can be somewhat costly, but it is well worth it in the end. However, often times you can find granite on sale or discounted. If you are shopping online, some companies will have promotions or special discounts if you spend a certain amount of money. Often times, if you go straight to the vendor it is more affordable as well, the reason being that you are cutting out the middle man.

When shopping in home improvement stores, you can often get lucky and shop when the store is having a special "holiday sale" or anniversary sale. Try shopping when it is cooler weather, such as after Christmas. Stores will be more anxious to sell because it is after the holiday rush of remodeling but before Spring which is when everyone wants to remodel. In some cases, you can save even more money if you purchase in bulk. Regular home improvement stores will do this often, as well as wholesalers.

The amazing thing about granite is that it is resistant to many elements that are found in the kitchen. For example, you can place a hot pan on the granite because it is resistant to heat. Granite also wipes clean so you do not have to worry with stains and water damage. Many describe granite as lasting for a lifetime for these very reasons. Also, you can make pre-cut holes for sinks and draining boards just as easily as you can with other countertops. Granite is great in the sense that it is versatile. It looks great in any kitchen, and can instantly add a nice decorative touch to an outdated kitchen.
