Spanish Translation

The Spanish translation has been in existence since centuries. The fact is that the earlier Spanish translation tasks mainly included religious books like Bible, prayer books, etc. The Spanish translation in modern times has a wide scope of application then the early times. This application of Spanish translation has seen considerable growth mainly from the twentieth century. This happened mostly after the Second World War when the number of international organizations, multinationals and worldwide communication systems increased. The wider scope of Spanish translation has also changed the classification of the translation process. It was considered as an art in the good old days and now considered as a science due to its hybrid nature.
Apart from the scope of the Spanish translation its quality is of huge concerned in the translation profession. Some scholars claim that the Spanish translation is of optimum quality if the translated text satisfies following conditions: the translated text should give complete information as in the source text. Secondly the writing style and manner of the text that has been translated ...
... should be same as that of the source text and the translated text should be so finely done that is easily accepted by the target consumer as the source has acceptance in its location of origin.
The process of Spanish translation is a linguistic operation and therefore the Spanish translator's knowledge about it is limited to his or her knowledge of the languages involved. Translation is considered as the process of transmitting the meaning of different signs from one culture to another and part of this meaning is achieved through the interaction between diverse textual elements. Therefore the Spanish translator should have the ability to identify and categorize the intertextuality in the source text and transmit in the target language text.
The Spanish translation involves some salient and distinct characteristics that are mainly a result of the rules and regulations followed in writing text of Spanish language. One of the important features of the Spanish language observed by the famous Spanish translator Allison Lonsdale is that it avoids use of same words in the single paragraph. Lonsdale claims to find sentences having up to five synonyms while translating Spanish text from a specialized field to English language. These synonyms in Spanish text generally need to be reduced while translating the Spanish text to English language to make the text more literal. The other characteristics seen in Spanish translation is the reduction of versus of poetry and introduction of prose. There are several examples of this feature where in the source language text is in the form poetry which is reduced when the same text is translated to Spanish. This can be observed clearly in the Spanish translation of the Bible namely: Good News Bible and Dios habla al hombre.
