Menorca''s Top Beaches
Less crowded than neighbouring Majorca and in many areas largely unspoiled, Menorca boasts some of the best beaches in the Mediterranean. Here are some of the top coastal destinations to suit all tastes.
Punta Prima: With soft white sand, stunning ocean views and a wealth of great facilities, it''s not surprising that Punta Prima is one of the most popular beaches on the island. Plenty of shops and bars nearby, beachside parking and a selection of water sports on offer mean this all-round great beach is most definitely worth a visit.
Binibequer: If you''re keen to escape from the crowds but still want a beach with good facilities, Binibequer is a good choice. It''s a favourite among locals and private holidaymakers, but a dearth of hotels in the area means that it never gets overcrowded, even in peak season.
Cala en Porter: Located in a sheltered bay and nestled between dramatic grey cliffs, Cala en Porter combines white sand with safe bathing in warm, calm waters. You''ll have to contend with the crowds ? but on the plus side, you certainly won''t be lacking for facilities.
Son Bou: As the longest ...
... and, according to many, the best beach on the island, Son Bou has a little something for everybody. There are life guards, beach bars, restaurants and a variety of water sports ? as well as a nearby naturist beach for those who fancy something a little different.
Cala Mitjana: It might be slightly trickier to get to than many of Menorca''s beaches, but if you''re prepared to do the drive then Cala Mitjana will offer you ample reward. Located south of Ferreries, it is protected by wooded cliffs and is seemingly immune to the ravages of tourism. The only downside is that there are no facilities ? so you''ll have to bring your own picnic.
Cala Galdana: Another stunning coastal location close to Ferreries, Cala Galdana is a beautiful bay blessed with fine white sand and calm turquoise waters. It also has plenty of facilities, from beach bars to restaurants and water sports for the kids, making it a great location for visiting families.
From popular resorts to secluded coves, Menorca has such a huge range of beaches that you''re bound to find one to suit. Remember, the best spots are often the most tricky to get to, so it''s a good idea to hire a car and explore the less frequented regions of the island. Bonny Kominek is very fond of the Balearic islands and has been going to Menorca for years. Getting car hire Menorca is essential in order to really enjoy the island.
