At the risk of sounding obvious when it comes to breast implants, size is the most important decision. Even though issues of saline vs. silicone, under vs. over, round vs. teardrop, and smooth vs. textured get a fair amount of attention, the overwhelming number one important decision is size. If you don't get the size right, nothing else matters. So, start with size and work everything else around it. Here are a few tips for size selection:

1# Although it may seem like a great idea to make your decision using cup size or photos of other women's breasts, this is unfortunately not very practical.

2# The best way to determine size is by using sizers with very tight sports bras. If you like what you see in the mirror, you are likely to be pleased with t he result of the same sized implants.

3# Most women are torn between the opposing concerns of not wanting to go too large, but also wanting to go large enough to make it all worthwhile. The best way to find the happy medium is I always recommend that by using sizers and selecting the largest size implant that you like.

4# Don't believe people who advise ...
... women to always go a size larger than you think you want. Whereas this may apply to some women, it does not apply to all and in particular does not apply to professional women who have had the chance to select their own size using sizers and tight bras.

5# Try not to adopt the attitude that there is a single best size for you. Instead, look upon your ideal size as being a range, rather than a particular size. As implants come in increments of about one ounce (2 tablespoons), there will be several sizes that make you just as happy.

6# Be wary of the plastic surgeon who selects the size for you. Plastic surgeons who choose for their patients tend to make everyone about the same size.

7# If you do choose a large implant (over 500 ml), you should avoid saline, as large saline implants have a higher rate to displacing downward, which is a difficult problem to fix.

When it comes to size selection, take your time and get it right!
