In-house Experienced Technical Support
Starting a New Website (Hosting)
Things to Consider When Starting a New Website
When you're starting a new website, there are so many things to worry about. You have to pick the perfect company name, decide on how to form your company, pick a domain name, and develop the website - just to name a few steps. The least of your worries should be when to actually host the site. Unfortunately, though, that is one of the decisions that must be made. With some many companies to choose from, how do you pick the right one?
In order to make sure your website is hosted with the right company, you have to first make a list of your needs from a web hosting company. When developing this list, it is important to make note of your own technical aptitude, how much access / control you need to your hosting panel, and price.
Look for In-House Experienced Technical Support if Your Technical Abilities are Limited
If you're someone who doesn't have strong technical ability, you may want to lean toward a host that offers in-house experienced technical support staff who are available during your ...
... business hours (at the very minimum) to answers your questions and resolve any issues. That way, you can make sure that if you ever get stuck on anything while working on your site; you will have someone to call.
Be Aware of Your Access
Most hosting providers provide you with full access to your hosting control panel so that you may upload files, download files, add new databases, etc. However, there are still a few that do not allow you this access and force you to make any changes by contacting one of their representatives and having them do it all for you (for a fee, of course). For some, this is not a problem. But, keep in mind, if you ever want to detach yourself from that host for whatever reason, you will most likely have a hard time retrieving your files. Furthermore, you can potentially run up a fairly large bill with just a few contacts to their support to make even the most minor website changes.
The best option for most people is to go with a company that has an in-house experienced technical support team that will be there for you to walk you through making changes to your site and utilizing any of the features of your hosting package. These people are often see as advisors and usually don't charge for their time (this is not always the case, however).
Consider Price vs. Value for Hosting
Depending on the way you shop, the price of any product or service is what you consider either first or last. Be advised, though, that you typically cannot put a price on a quality web hosting provider that offers you all of the services you need, based on your own web hosting familiarity.
