What is specialty furniture?

It is not easy to describe this term because it can be any price, any material, any style, or any purpose. In other words, the term covers a whole range of furniture types but they do not fall under the mainstream furniture category.

Specialty furniture includes those furniture categories that usually cater to very specific, very esoteric needs of particular customer segments. This broad category of furniture types may include any of this special-purpose, listed items covering a wide range of prices and tastes:

Garden furniture: This can be custom built with stone, concrete, log wood, or iron.

Water beds: This is actually filled with water for maximum back support and sleeping comfort.

Student's hostel furniture: This is usually made of cheap wood or artificial hardwood.

Assembled, hardwood furniture: These are do-it-yourself (DIY) furniture kits provided with detailed schematics and bolts, screws, nuts and so on, so that any average customer can follow the drawings and assemble the furniture on his or her own. These furniture pieces are very heavy and hard ...
... to carry but very light on the pocketbook!

Hand-crafted furniture: Each and every piece of this furniture is done manually from start to finish. As a lot of man hours and traditional materials are needed to create these pieces, these items often come with heavy price tags!

Designer furniture that is created from an artist's dreams, thus making the furniture items one-of-a-kind in style and price. Some European designer furniture companies are famous all over the world.

Leather furniture that caters to both commercial and home customers and generally come in a wide variety of prices, depending on the quality and quantity of leather used in a set.

Furniture sets serving the hotel or travel industry where luxury hotels, budget hotels, vacation homes, corporate guest houses, time-sharing homes, conference or convention buildings with living spaces all set up different types of living accommodations based on their individual needs, budgets, and tastes. This category of furniture can be custom built and vary in prices from cheap to very expensive, top-line, imported furniture.

The specialty furniture items often require different upkeep and the manufacturers are careful to provide all the detailed instructions, so that they don't have to face angry complaints from the consumer's forum or legal threats.

Like any non-mainstream items, these items can be both a delight and a nightmare. Some of these types can be delightful because they are distinctive and sometimes cheap; on the other hand, some of these furniture items can be nightmarish if they break or disintegrate and leave the owner no choice but to discard them. Except for the expensive leather, hand-crafted, or designer furniture items, the other furniture types in the "specialty furniture category" do not receive any on-going repair or maintenance support.

If buyers are looking to buy specific purpose, specialty furniture, they should definitely make sure that they get enough information about the ongoing care and maintenance of such items, available repair services, and DYI options of repairing some of them at home.
