Palm oil is derived from the oil palm. It is considered to be one of the healthiest vegetable oils currently available on the market today. Because of the extremely low amount of unsaturated fat it contains. It also contains a large amount of several vital nutrients including Vitamins A and E. Organic versions of the oil are readily available and offer a healthy alternative to animal oils that is environmentally friendly as well.

Palm oil itself is one of the most used oils, outside of the United States, in the world. In fact, only soy oil is more popular worldwide. Owing in part to the health benefits, palm oil has been used throughout Africa for thousands of years. Today organic palm oil is used for baking as well as deep-frying. In some cases, it is used to create margarine and shortening. One of the most positive components of organic palm oil is that it does not require any form of hydrogenation.

1. It must be part of a diverse program. A process of crop rotation must be utilized.

3. No organisms that have been genetically modified can be used during the cultivation of the oil palm.

4. No synthetic drugs or chemical fertilizers can be used.

Further more, during the harvesting and productions processes, producers must seek to use methods that will not negatively impact the environment. Prevention of emissions, run-off and dangerous chemicals must be avoided.

Organic palm oil draws on a centuries old tradition. Palm oil has long been produced and used throughout Africa and Asia. Industrialization and technology changed the way oil palms were raised as well as the process by which oil is extracted from the fruit. Today, the impact of chemical fertilizers, over-taxed land and run-off have become apparent, more and more are growers are turning to healthier and more sustainable methods of production. By returning to the older ways of farming, we are rediscovering a world that uses natural methods instead of chemical ones. A world where crops are healthier and more sustainable and one where agriculture does not harm our soil, water or air.

Organic palm oil should be considered by anyone seeking a healthy and organic alternative to traditional animal oils. Even users of more well known vegetable oils are beginning to see the benefits of palm oil.

By making the change to organic palm oil, it is possible to have a fresh and healthy oil that does not negatively impact the environment.
