Corruption in OST file can occur due to various reasons like, improper system shutdown, virus attack, and operating system malfunction. In most cases of OST file corruption, the user encounters an error message, which results into inaccessibility of the data saved in the file. While the error message explains the main cause of corruption, it is still not easy for an MS Outlook user to repair that file and access its data. In such situations, the data saved in the OST file can only be accessed by converting the file from into a PST (Personal Storage Folder) file. To convert a file from OST to PST, the user needs to use an advanced third-party conversion software.

Consider a practical case, where you try to access an OST file and receive the below error message:

Event Type: Information
Event Source: Outlook
Event Category: None
Event ID: 30
Date: 5/10/2008
Time: 8:33:44 AM
User: N/A
Computer: SBS-Computer
Description: The store C:\Documents and Settings\user.domain\Local
Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\outlook.ost ...
... is being reconciled
with the indexer for the following reason: Non-matching max change numbers

This error message does not allow you to access the OST file. In addition, the same error message appears every time you try to open your OST file.

Cause:

The root cause for the occurrence of the error message is corruption of the OST file.
Resolution:

To resolve the above error message, you will need to repair the corrupt OST file. To do so, you will need to use a tool named OST Integrity Check tool. This tool checks and repairs a logically corrupted OST file in most of the cases. However, if this tool fails to repair the OST file and you want to access the OST file data, then you will need to convert the corrupted OST to PST file. To do so, an advanced third-party Convert OST to PST file software can be of great help. This will allow you to open the PST file in MS Outlook and access your data.

Stellar Phoenix Mailbox Exchange Desktop is a user-friendly tool that can Convert OST to PST file in few mouse clicks. The read only software does not make any change in the original OST file while conversion. It is compatible with MS Outlook 2003, 2002, 2000, 98 and 97. The do-it-yourself tool recovers OST file components including, emails, tasks, journals, and more.
