Apple’s App Store Purge: App Ban Round 2

It seems that Droid’s and Verizon’s attacks on the iPhone, citing the multitude of useless apps, and lack of certain functionalities has lead to a reaction by Apple to take charge and clean up their cluttered app-store.

With the recent removal of “sexy” apps from the Apple App-Store it should come as no surprise that Apple wants to remove even more apps to show a more useful side; reinforcing a sense of exclusivity (you decide if it’s false or realistic).

Numerous sources say that the ban is specifically for template-based iPhone applications; stating that the new ban isn’t suppose to get rid of current apps, but forewarn the disapproval of future apps with this format.

To me, it seems like this is a sensible move by Apple. The company that boasts over 100,000 apps is realizing that quality is definitely a more desirable characteristic than quantity. A move like this can give Apple the power to claim that they have the “#1 recommend app store” or any variations of that phrase since ...
... other app storesâ€Androidâ€are slowly but surely playing catch up to Apple’s 100,000 apps.

On the other side, I do think many of these so-called “cookie cutter” apps may be very useful (although unnecessary) to those shackled to the Apple/AT
