You may have heard of an alarm system which rings an alarm when it senses some intruder trying to enter the house. This is usually left on or is active in the night or you can make it active when there is no one at home. The ringing sound alarms your neighbours too and they will soon get alert in your absence. Leave behind a message to your neighbour when you are not at home so that they will be alert and will inform the cops in case some thing untoward was to occur. This can be adjustable and reset too.

There can be a laser fence surrounding your house or office. Any intruder who tries to break the fence will trigger the alarm system. This way, you can safe guard your house from intruders.

The most advanced way of doing this is by installing an indoor or out door surveillance camera. For those who cannot afford this, can also install a fake device which looks like the real one and misleads an intruder that there is a security device which will capture all his actions. If it is in a poorly lit areas ensure it comes paired with a good outdoor security light or infrared or night vision capabilities. Often these cameras automatically switch modes when visibility drops below a set light fresh hold. It should be tough enough to bear the intruder's vandalism.
