Tradespersons who have completed an electrician training course might be needed to help implement a new government initiative, which was announced today.

According to the Department of Energy and Climate Change - which was created in 2008 - the Warm Homes, Greener Homes Strategy hopes to help cut carbon emissions from homes in Britain by 29 per cent by 2020.

The scheme will be rolled out in three parts, with the insulation of six million properties taking place first, followed by insulation of all practical lofts and cavity walls by 2015 and then seven million eco upgrades - including smart meter fittings - by 2020.

Commenting on the proposals, Ed Miliband, energy and climate change secretary, said: "Making homes more energy efficient will help protect people from upward pressure on bills, tackle climate change and make us less reliant on imported energy."

And it is thought that these upgrades will create up to 65,000 jobs, with qualified tradespersons potentially in need to install new eco-friendly appliances.
