One of the best and easiest ways to generate a whole lot of traffic for any website is through the clever use of social networking sites and other online communities. As anyone interested in business should know any community is a great market as the lines of communication and marketing are already open. If you want to become a builder, a DJ or a gardener for example then your local community would be a great place to do start promoting your business and posting flyers. Well the internet is no different and if you find a community such as a forum then you suddenly have all the tools in place you need to start promoting your site or business. Better yet find a national or global community such as Reddit, Facebook or YouTube and suddenly you've got a platform to market your sites to thousands of people.

On Facebook for example all you have to do is make lots of friends. You can add friends at random so long as you don't do too many (which will alert Facebook to your unusual activities) and when they're on your list anything you post will end up on their home feed - this way you've got a great captive audience. ... Facebook great too is that you can also search for friends by their hobbies or interests, or pick them out of groups. For example if you had a bodybuilding site you could find the bodybuilding Facebook group or fan page and then add all the members as friends. You can also obviously make your own group or fan page for your website and then invite your new found friends to be a member of that.

A social networking site that's quickly gaining in prominence too is Twitter, where you post one-line updates about what you're doing or things you've found of interest. This is a great way to make a site seem more interactive and another great place to spread links once you've got lots of 'followers'. You will find that soon after starting your Twitter 'feed' people start adding you or following you by finding you on other people's pages etc. Once your Twitter gets a lot of followers it will also get its own page rank, meaning that links coming from your profile will become worth a lot in the eyes of Google. Another bonus of Twitter is that people can 're-tweet' thereby sharing your message (and hopefully your link) with everyone that's following them, if it's interesting at least.

Through YouTube you can get a similar effect by getting subscribers to your 'channel' or people finding your videos via searches. If you have a 'viral' hit you will find people linking to your videos and embedding them all over the net. If you then promote your website or product in the video itself you'll be getting thousands or even millions of visitors from that route. There's also space on YoutTube down the right side of the page to post links to your site.
