Exchange Server Fails To Save Appointments
Scheduling appointments becomes essential when you are working in an organization or corporate or business entity. Calendaring option in MS Exchange Server allows performing several scheduling tasks, including creation of appointments and saving of appointments.
For smooth functioning of Appointments in Exchange Server, it is required that Exchange directory structure remains excluded from antivirus scanning. There is a possibility that antivirus scanning may lead to some kind of obstruction in the working of Exchange Server. Another disadvantage of scanning your Exchange Server directory structure is that it may also lead to corruption of the most important files in your Information Store (IS) of Exchange Server, such as .EDB, .STM, .CHK, and .LOG files.
.EDB files are the repository of all Exchange Server data. Any kind of corruption is easily tackled if you use professional EDB Recovery software.
Let’s consider an instance related with Calendaring agent. Suppose you try to save few appointments in MS Exchange ...
... Server and you notice that Calendar option fails to function properly. Some or all of the calendar information are lost. Additionally, you receive the similar entries logging in application event log of Exchange Server:
Event ID: 8206
Source: EXCDO
Description: Calendaring agent failed with error code 0×80040229 while saving appointment
And
Event ID: 1160
Source: MsExchangeIS
Description: Database resource failure error First Storage Group\Mailbox Store (MAIL) occurred in function JTAB_BASE::EcPrepareUpdate while accessing the database “0xfffffc0d”.
You may also encounter Event IDs 2 and 7200, which also means failure of Exchange Calendaring agent.
Reason for this behavior
Exchange Server exhibits the above described behavior when file-level antivirus software is installed and is configured to scan the Exchange Server directory (EXCHSRVR) structure.
Solution
Simple solution to this problem is to re-configure your antivirus software and not to include EXCHSRVR directory and drive ‘M’ in this scan.
What happens is that file-level antivirus software locks and scans the file that is currently being tried to access by Exchange Server. Thus, the Information Store (IS) fails to lock this file and eventually the file becomes corrupt and unusable.
One should not panic in such times. So whenever this occurs, firstly try to restore the database from a previous backup or apply ESEUTIL repair utilities like - /p and /r for the affected Exchange Server database(s).
However, if nothing fruitful comes your way, then it’s recommended to use EDB Recovery software without wasting any further time. EDB Recovery Software scans and repairs the corrupted database effectively. It recovers each and every existing file item including Appointments without modifying original file contents. It repairs the heavily corrupt Exchange database files .EDB and restore user mailboxes with every email, attachment, image, email property and other relevant items. The recovered email data are then saved to Outlook .PST file.
