Bowel Retraining And Exercise - To Control Your Problems?
Faecal incontinence may be embarrassing for most of them. People suffering from faecal incontinence will avoid going to work and avoid other social and physical activity. But, do you know that this is treatable. Do not avoid consulting your doctor thinking nothing can be done about it. There are bowel retraining and other exercises that you can follow easily at the comforts of your home.
Bowel retraining and exercise:
Stop faecal incontinence or loss of control over your stools. Retrain your anal, buttock and pelvic muscles and have greater control over the passage of stools. Raise above an embarrassing situation! You may not be aware of the urge to defecate or expel your stools. Hence, you need some training to be aware of your muscles and bowel movement. Training is required to the older adults as they lack the awareness of the urge to defecate. They should be guided to the toilet after every meal. This will make them aware of the usage of toilet and their urge too.
For other adults, they can try pelvic or kegel exercise. Hold on to your breath and hold your anal muscles tightly till you count down 5 slowly. ...
... Think that you are trying to control the passage of stool. Follow this for 30 minutes and practise this thrice daily.
Diet is also vital!
Diet plays an important role in treating faecal incontinence. Eat food rich in fibre and probiotics. Fibre is found in plenty in fruits and vegetables. Green leafy vegetables and spinach will add bulk to the loose stools. Similarly, fruits will also be helpful; Probiotics or the friendly bacteria is found in curds, soya milk, unpasteurised milk and sprouted grams too.
Reasons for bowel incontinence are:
Damage to anal muscles during pregnancy
Improper diet
injury to the anal sphincter muscles or the nerves surrounding these muscles
Spinal cord damage
Radiation treatment to the lower pelvic region
Stroke
Chemotherapy
Certain medications, such as antibiotics or Neurontin
Both men and women suffer from this problem, though it is more common in women because of injury to the anal muscles or nerves that can occur during childbirth. Bowel incontinence becomes more common with advancing age as the muscles that control bowel movements (anal sphincter muscles) weaken. Follow the above exercise and diet, you will soon be relieved from it. Now, you can gain control over your problems naturally!
