Indian Airline Carriers Take On International Rivals
In the coming days, domestic Airline companies like Jet Airways, Kingfisher, and Air India are going to rule the roost. The domestic biggies seem to have got their acts together as they have apparently set the stage to overtake international carriers on high-traffic global routes.
As per the data available with international aviation consultancy Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation (CAPA), Kingfisher and Jet, having a combined 40 percent share of weekly capacity on the India -Hong Kong route, can now pack in more passengers. In fact Kingfisher and Jet at present offer the same number of seats as Cathay Pacific, the official airline of Hong Kong.
And if rope in Air India which has 10 percent capacity share, then one can safely say that Indian carriers are far more well-equipped in offering more number seats than rival Cathay on this route.
High Traffic Route % share of Indian % share of
India -UK Indian Carriers Foreign Carriers
India -UK 52 39
India-Hong Kong 50 40
India-Singapore 43 46

... India-Dubai 35 62
India- Thailand 33 55
Likewise, Indian carriers are doing well on the India -Singapore as well and in fact giving a tough competition to Singapore's flag carrier and its sister airline Silk Air's Share. The weekly capacity of both these airlines on this route is 46 percent- a few notches higher than Indian carriers having a combined capacity of 42 percent. Of it Kingfisher's share is 7 percent, Jet Airways 12 percent and Air India's is 24 percent.
The best part being: the trend is not confined to South East Asia routes. When it comes to UK-India route, Jet Airways and Kingfisher have a combined capacity of 31 percent. And with the inclusion of Air India, Indian Carriers have already overtaken British Airways and Virgin Atlantic in terms of capacity share.
India's dominance will only get bigger once Spice Jet enters the market from June onwards and Kingfisher recently receiving permission to double the number of international flights to key locations like London and Singapore
London, Singapore, Hong Kong and Bangkok and Dubai comprise 40 percent of the international aviation market from India.
