Tradespeople who have taken electrical training courses could find themselves in increasing demand to fit home automation technology following comments from an expert.

It was recently revealed that a number of smart-home devices have been exhibited in Germany recently, which allow users to operate a wide range of products within their property with the use of touch screens or mobile phones.

And Andy Stanford-Clark, master inventor for IBM and visiting professor at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, commented that if people use intelligent heating and lighting systems, they could cut down on energy use and costs.

"I [have] saved approximately one-third on my electricity bills since I started monitoring and automating my home. This obviously has reduced my carbon footprint significantly and has saved me money too," he said.

Should people start to try this type of technology out for themselves, tradespersons who have full electrical qualifications could find that their employment prospects are boosted by homeowners requiring top-quality professionals to install the devices.
