Throughout the year we throw parties, host tons of barbeques and set up many shin digs so sometimes they begin to feel a bit samey. Keep your parties powerful, exciting and fun by thinking outside the box and going with some original ideas for games, activities and entertainment! There are those Easter egg hunts with the kids every Spring, the countless birthday parties for friends of all ages, the spooky Halloween house events and Christmas party season comes around too fast, so how can you impress your guests when they're around at yours every other week?

The thing we love more than anything else right now when it comes to parties is a game imported from Mexico. Pis are all the rage in the US and they've also taken the rest of the world by storm. So, it's about time we started playing with pis too. Although pinatas might sound quite exotic, they're actually really simple. In this guide we'll have a look at some different celebrations and how you can include a couple of pis to help your guests have a 'smashing' (and bashing) time.

Crafty Creations
Really, pis offer you a few choices. You can buy them ready-made ...
... but un-filled and fill them with your own sweeties, confetti and goodies. Buy them ready-made and filled so there's nothing to do except hang them, or you can make your own from scratch. It takes some time and energy but with a few bags of drinking straws as a structural base, along with masking tape, pva glue (mixed with water) and newspaper you can make some pis yourself. You can cover them in coloured crepe paper (which looks best) or paint them.

For a quick and simple party game, we recommend you buy some pis ready-made and add some of your own personalised treats. If you're not sure how pis work don't worry there's no big set of rules to learn. People line up blind folded and take turns to hit pis with a stick, after each turn at hitting it the children (or adults!) then see what they managed to bash out (lying on the ground) and that bounty is theirs to take.

Birthdays
Birthdays come but once a year and they offer a brilliant chance to celebrate. It's time to kick back, relax and get your glad rags on; surround yourself with friends and have a great time! If you're planning a birthday party soon for yourself or for someone else you can make the shindig even more exciting by including a few games and activities, even for the grown-ups.

Adding pinatas to parties for grown-ups can bring back the joy of your youth. Just make sure you're not too drunk when you try to hit one with your blind fold on or you may hit a friend instead! Pis create a colourful focal point at a party and give kids the chance to use up any energy they've collected from too many fairy cakes and fizzy drinks. For grown-ups who enjoy drinking games you can add miniature liquor bottles and individually wrapped indulgent chocolates to a pi for a more adult twist. Meanwhile, teenagers love bashing pis to grab prizes off the floor, especially teenage boys who really get in to the challenge.

Christmas
Festive pis are a great way for kids to have some more fun on Christmas morning but also look great at Christmas parties. Imagine a giant 'Christmas pudding' pi packed with candy canes and chocolate treats. Or what about pis that look like giant Christmas gifts, a sparkly bauble, a tree or even a Santa? They blend in with the other Christmas decorations marvellously and they offer tons of fun.

Halloween
Pis are perfect for Halloween parties too. You can hang them over a tree in the garden if you start hitting them before the night gets too dark or keep them inside. One of the best pis I ever saw was at a grown up Halloween party.
The hostess loved making scarecrow like 'guys' for bonfire night (her favourite celebration) and this time she made an extra 'scarecrow' out of paper-mache, filled him with treats and hung him from the ceiling. This was the scariest of pis and great fun to beat with a stick!

If a scarecrow pi is too scary what about smiling pumpkin pinatas? Or your guests could whack the witch, get the ghost, or bash the bogie man!

Easter
Perfect pis for Easter parties are easy to make or buy. A giant colourful egg containing mini eggs, mini fluffy chicks and other Easter goodies is the best end to an egg hunt ever!
