We have to admit that having high credit card debt is indeed stressful and burdening. When we have a big sum of outstanding balances which we fail to pay, what can be done to resolve the problem? Hiring a debt settlement company no doubt is one of the financial options you can consider, however, there are many service providers which are unethical and they mislead their clients to pay more and yet their clients' credit scores are badly affected.

If you don't want to be trapped in this desperate situation, you had better work out other alternatives without the assistance of the settlement company.

1st Option:

Look for a legitimate credit counselor. There are many good CERTIFIED counselors in the market. What you need to do is to find out their backgrounds through professional reviews in order to see how reliable they are.

2nd Option:

Negotiate with your creditors on your own. It is not a hard task. Even your verbal communication skill is not good, you still can write in to your creditors to request for debt reduction. You stand a higher chance to settle your debt ...
... successfully if you establish good relationship with your creditors. They are willing to work with you when they get to know your current financial situation. In general, they will either lower your total debt amount or reduce your interest. By writing a sound letter, you can save a lot of cost.

3rd Option:

You may consider obtaining debt consolidation loan instead of debt settlement. In fact, both consolidating your debts and settling your debts are the same. The main purpose is to reduce your total debt. When you consolidate all your debts into a new loan, you are actually enjoying a lower interest rate and in the long run, you are able to reduce your total outstanding.

Now, after going through the 3 options, do you still need a debt settlement company to assist you?
