Check List For House Cleaning

The word “chore†conjures a shudder from even the toughest person. It can be overwhelming to look around a dirty home and see an endless list of tasks laid out before you. It can be frustrating to know even where to begin and quite easy to put the tasks off to another day. Should you start in the kitchen with dishes and refrigerator organizing? Should you begin outdoors, and work indoors? It is not impossible to get your whole house clean †especially if you focus on a practical and strategic plan of attack. Making a concerted effort on one thing at a time will make the time go by quickly, and before you know it, you will be done! The checklist below provides a quick and easy guide for cleaning your home efficiently and making the most of your valuable time.
Be prepared
Arm yourself with all of your cleaning supplies from the onset. Designate a “cleaning bucket†and fill it with your favorite products, scrub brushes, dusters, etc. Have a few old washcloths, paper towels, and older towels to use for drying. Make sure to use the correct products ...
... for the job. If you have a mild soap scum problem in the bathroom, make sure you have the necessary products. Contrary to popular belief, baking soda won’t clean everything. Aside from the physical preparations, be mentally prepared to complete the challenge. If you are too busy for a total cleaning at once, build a schedule. Make Tuesday the day you clean the bathrooms, or Saturday mornings the time you mop the tile in the kitchen. Adhering to an established schedule will build your confidence in your ability to maintain a clean household.
Plan your attack
The easiest and fastest way to clean is from the top down. Tops of shelves and bookcases tend to be less dirty than the lower shelves. It will be a nice way to ease into the cleaning routine. Clean back to front- reach in the depths of shelves and drawers before moving to the front. Clean behind the sofa and hard to reach areas behind chairs before moving to the open spaces. Start in a room and move in a way that makes sense to you- typically left to right, focusing your attention on a specific area at a time for maximum efficiency.
Dust first- vacuum later!
If you plan on dusting all exposed surface areas, you will be able to vacuum up the dust and dirt afterward. Remember to work from the top down- don’t forget ceiling fans and tabletop lamps. Dust can gather on all of these objects and after a thorough cleaning, you will notice a significant difference in the air quality of your home.
Don’t be afraid to throw away!
Clutter accumulates over time. Understandably, it is difficult to part with objects and mementos that carry special meaning. Yet, the easiest way to keep a house clean is to rid it of unnecessary clutter. Edit the amount of things you keep on display in your household, and you will be pleasantly surprised with how much easier clean up becomes.
If you establish an effective cleaning routine, you will be less hesitant to conquer the house cleaning chore.
