Great Attractions In Myrtle Beach

Myrtle Beach is located on South Carolina's northern coast and it is a premier beach resort destination. It forms part of the Grand Strand which is a 60-mile stretch of coastline with some of the region's finest beaches. Myrtle Beach is primarily a summer destination and has a vast array of fun-filled attractions that'll entertain you during the duration of your stay.
Sandy, White Beaches
The area's greatest attraction is its beautiful beaches. Almost all activities are centered around the beachfront, sea and various watersport activities. There are a range of fun activities for the whole family to enjoy.
Water Parks
The kids will love a visit to one the many amusement parks at Myrtle Beach. The Family Kingdom Oceanfront Water Park is located right on the beachfront and has thrilling slides, lazy river rides and loads of fun water activities. The Wild Water and Wheels Park is just off the beachfront and has 24 different rides including speed slides, mat slides, tube slides and more gentle rides for the kiddies.
Casino Cruise Ships
The Casino Ships set sail twice daily from Myrtle Beach ...
... on a five hour-cruise. The ships offer Vegas-style gambling and entertainment. Between playing the tables, you can relax on the deck, enjoy some fine dining and great entertainment, or simply watch the sunset. There are regular tournaments on board that you may want take part in if you fancy yourself to be a skilled player.
Saltwater and Freshwater Fishing
Most of the fishing at Myrtle Beach is saltwater fishing. Permits are required if fishing from a private charter boat or from the surf. If fishing from a fishing pier, permits are not required. The Grand Strand Fishing Rodeo is one of the main events that occurring during the summertime. Freshwater fishing can be enjoyed on the Intracoastal Waterway which runs between Socastee and Little River parallel to the coast.
Boating and Water Sports
Sailing yachts and motor boats can be hired or chartered throughout the summer season. Enjoy the day cruising the coastline and soaking up the sun. If you're lucky, you may have a visit from a pod of dolphins. When the wind's blowing, hoist the sails and enjoy the summer breeze. Sea kayaks, windsurfers and jet skis can be hired to enjoy in the surf and on the inland waterways. Scuba diving charters have regular trips out to the reefs and equipment can be hired from the dive centers. If you have never tried your hand at windsurfing or surfing before, you can take a few lessons from one of the local schools. They will teach you all there is to know about balance, reading the waves, and learning to cruise in like a pro. Parasailing is yet another activity on offer. Banana boat rides are great fun and bookings can be made at the local tourist office or boat charter marina.
Huntington Beach State Park
The park is a great place to go camping. There is a fresh water lagoon, nature trails and a beautiful stretch of beach. While you are there, you can visit the historic Atalya castle that was once the winter home of sculptor Anna Hyatt Huntington. In season, there are various nature programs that are especially entertaining for the kids.
Myrtle Beach State Park
The Park has a mile-long beach, 312 acres of parkland, a maritime forest that has been declared a Heritage Trust Site, a campground, cabins, and a fishing pier. The nature center runs educational programs which are fun for the whole family.
Myrtle Beach Nightlife
There is no shortage of nightlife at Myrtle Beach. The many nightclubs, sports bars and restaurants provide all kinds of entertainment. Depending what you're in the mood for, you can enjoy a night of dancing, entertainment in a dinner theater or have fun in one of the karaoke clubs. Sports fans can watch the game on big screen TVs while sipping ice-cold beer. There is live music in all different styles ranging from blues and R - B to rock and roll, country and instrumental music.
Shopping in Myrtle Beach
You had better hang onto the credit card when visiting Myrtle Beach or you may be getting a call from the bank manager when you get back home. There are endless shopping malls, flea markets, factory outlets, boardwalk shops and specialty stores. Visit the nearby communities of Little River, Windy Hill, Murrell's Inlet and Ocean Drive and browse the many unique stores along the coast.
