Research paper rubric should be meaningful and at the same time indicative to the main problem that the research paper is dealing with. The title should provide a fair bit of introduction to the readers about the motives of the research paper.
Before making any rubric it is important to do following activities-
1) Analyzing the causes relevant to the problem- Once the problem has been defined and delimited it is analyzed in order to discover the elements that are fundamentally responsible for the existence of that problem. For this the research worker collects much tabulated or systematic information, and when the causes are listed this information is also related to the various relevant causes. This helps to verify the causes. In analyzing the causes the following elements are taken special note of:
i) Logical relevance- The causes of the problems should have logical relation with the problem.
ii) Testable- the cause should be verifiable.
iii) Specificity- The cause of the problem should be specific not general.
iv) Authenticity- The cause should be rendered authentic.
v) Control- ...
... In locating the cause of the trouble another thing should be found out is the forces that control it.
The title will also work as an introduction to the hypothesis of the research paper. A good research hypothesis has the following characteristics-
1) Verifiability- A good hypothesis can be actually verified in practical conditions.
2) Profundity of effect- A good hypothesis has a profound effect upon a variety of research variables.
3) Clarity- A good hypothesis is stated in very clear terms the meaning and implication of which can't be doubted.
4) Purposive ness- The objective of a good hypothesis is well known to the research worker.
5) Relevance to the problem- Another quality of a good hypothesis is that it should have relevance for the problems to be solved because in research the aim is to solve problems.
6) Least interference with other activities- A good hypothesis has this quality over the bad one that it doesn't interfere with other activities or at least so only when such interference is unavoidable.
7) Economical- Expenditure of money and time as the least when the hypothesis underlying the research undertaken is good.
8) Supported by pre established theories- The chief elements of a good hypothesis have the support of older theories that are established and have not been called in question.
9) In keeping with the abilities of the researcher- A good hypothesis is also well in keeping with the abilities of the research worker.
From the above characteristics of any research paper rubric it is evident that certain factors must be kept in mind before any such rubric is formed. In forming it the problem should be properly analyzed, defined and delimited so that the factors at its root should be clarified and précised and these causes should be verified by other evidence. Besides, in forming such a rubric one must keep in mind all the various other alternatives and then should choose the best one.
