Clep Can Help College Students Fulfill Degree Requirements

Many college students who are trying to finish their degree find that there are some courses that seem supplementary: those basic educational requirements or the last courses needed to finish to be able to graduate. For those who wish to fulfill degree requirements without taking multitudes of extra courses, there is CLEP.

The College Level Examination Program (CLEP) is a testing system that allows college students to take an exam to earn credit toward their degree. CLEP helps college students earn anywhere from three to twelve credit hours to count toward a degree program. For students who have had personal experience or previous knowledge in certain subjects, taking a CLEP test can move them toward a degree at a faster pace than taking a traditional class.

Many colleges allow credit from CLEP, but a student should check with their own university policies before enrolling for a CLEP exams. There may be some situations where CLEP exams fulfill the needed requirements, but the school must decide how much credit to give or what classes are completed by taking a test. CLEP offers 34 different subjects for testing: topics that range from English Literature to Business. A student who is interested in taking a CLEP exam should complete a registration form and pay the fee. They can then take the exam at one of many CLEP testing centers located across the United States.

CLEP offers an official study guide to prepare students for the exam. Some knowledge for the exam comes only from personal experience or previous training. Students are also encouraged to review subjects and information in textbooks in order to be fully prepared. Following the exam, the CLEP tests results are then forwarded to the institution of the student's choice for credit.
