Ko Phi Phi Don, Krabi Province

Out from the coasts of Phuket and Krabi province soar a number of limestone islands, but none quite so impressive as Ko Phi Phi don. It''s an idyllic island of two huge rocks with beaches in between. The nearby island of Phi Phi Ley was the setting of The Beach, starring Leonardo Di Caprio.

Phi Phi Don is a small island with plenty of going on. If you spend too long there, you can feel a little claustrophobic, as living space is tight. Aside from the nightlife, which is best down at the beaches, make sure you take a boat tour out to neighbouring islands. The more daring should try a bit of cliff jumping!

Ko Phangan, Surat Thani Province

Perhaps host to the single most famous party in the world, the Full Moon party, Ko Phangan gets flooded with revellers every time the moon gets big and round. The main part of the action happens around Haad Rin Beach on the southern tip of the island.

Unless you book in advance, it can often be difficult to get accommodation in Haad Rin around the Full Moon Party date. However, as the island is quite big, there are plenty of idyllic resorts dotted around, many of which are actually more picturesque than tourist focused Haad Rin.
