Discover Dubai
Dubai is currently one of the most dynamic modern holiday destinations on the globe, a place of enormous transformation. Like the other six Emirates that make up the United Arab Emirates, Dubai first accrued serious wealth with the oil boom that began in the mid 1960''s. It is this wealth that provided the economic base allowing the massive transformation of the desert state that continues to this day, and shows no sign of stopping.
Dubai has followed a deliberate path of diversification from its existing base as an oil giant, perhaps looking to the future when oil reserves run out, and the benefit of this for the intrepid traveller is the sheer scale of investment that has been directed to constructing world class holiday resorts and attractions.
Today, Dubai is famous for some of the biggest construction projects in the world, and is home to the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world. At 828m, the Burj Khalifa dwarfs that 20th Century giant, the former champion, the Empire States Building ? the Burj Khalifa is more than twice the height of the Empire States Building.
Other man made wonders ...
... of the world include the World Islands, brainchild of Sheik Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai. This staggering achievement consists of 300 islands which form an archipelago approximating the major land masses of the world, and is in total a massive 9km in length and 6km wide ? definitely a must see.
The internet is a good place to start to get a feel for the range of resorts and accommodation available ? as well as a good first stop when looking for flights to Dubai. Check out sites like Dialaflight to get a feel for the range of flights on offer, from economy to luxury.
Dubai is blessed with year round sunshine, and has access to the warm waters of the southern Gulf. Activities include swimming with sharks, and desert expeditions ? and you can even learn to ski or snowboard indoors at one of the largest indoor snow slopes in the world!
Dubai is, predictably for a desert, hot, with average summer temperatures regularly topping 40 degrees Celsius. Air conditioning is of course standard with all accommodation ? just be sure to bring the factor 50 for when you venture outside!
Like most Gulf States, Dubai is a Muslim country, but is perhaps the most relaxed of the Emirates in terms of the observance of Islamic law expected in visitors. Although regulated, alcohol is available from bars and restaurants, making Dubai the most welcoming of Arab states. Get on the phone to DialAFlight to secure your flights to Dubai today. Travel to Dubai with confidence and luxury with an award winning flight service.
