Jamaica is a tropical paradise of massive proportions. It has miles of beaches, crystal-clear ocean waters and a long list of places to visit. Jamaica is one of the most exciting and magical places for travelers, as visitors are drawn to the rich history, timeless culture and comfortable climate. Planning a trip to Jamaica can be very fun as mapping out the places that you plan to go when you arrive can be a good way to start your vacation. Here are a few places that can kick off your Jamaica vacation the right way:

* Devon House. This is a historic mansion as well as an intriguing place to visit. This mansion was built in 1881 by George Steibel, the son of a housekeeper and also the first black millionaire of the island. This mansion is a national monument and heritage site that promotes Jamaican arts, crafts and educational aspirations. This is a wonderful historical monument to visit.

* Faith's Penn, St. Ann. This tiny little spot is located off the main road from Spanish town to Ocho Rios. Here, you can visit over 30 vendor stalls organized in numerous huts that offer a vast array of Jamaican dishes to please ...
... the palate. You can taste some great jerk pork and chicken, ackee and saltfish, fried and roasted fish, fried or roasted breadfruit, roasted corn on the cob, amazing soups and much more. This place will leave you feeling full and satisfied. If you have never had the opportunity to taste the foods of Jamaica, this is the place to visit.

* Little Ochi, St. Elizabeth. This is another excellent restaurant that offers a rustic dining setting with the ability to indulge in all your favorite seafood cravings while you dine right on the beach. If you love the taste of seafood, you won't find a better restaurant in Jamaica.

* Dunn's River Falls. After you have filled yourself with seafood and all other types of treats, head over to Dunn's River Falls to work off the extra pounds you may have collected. Dunn's River is on the island's north coast, just outside of Ocho Rios; it is an absolute phenomenon. The rushing of the giant falls will give you a rush like you've never had in your life. You can climb the falls with a guide that will lead you to the top. Once there, you can see just how enormous and majestic the falls are. This is a place you definitely want to see before you leave Jamaica.

* Accompong. This settlement was founded in 1739, after the Maroons signed a peace treaty with the British. This place is set on top of the mountains of St. Elizabeth in the western part of Jamaica. This little village will take you back to the past of Jamaica, when the people here first began to settle. The people are warm, friendly and welcoming. The spirit of the village lives through them. The way they cherish every bit of life will inspire you and make you think twice about your American ways. It is a great place to find peace, tranquility and perhaps a bit of rejuvenation that you have never felt before.

* Negril's Seven Mile Beach, Westmoreland. This is a seven-mile stretch of white sandy beach and some of the most incredible sunsets you will ever see. There is also a wide variety of entertainment options. Between the discos, restaurants, fire-eaters and other entertainment, you will definitely find something to enjoy here. This area offers prime snorkeling and diving options for those who are ocean fans. You can even jump off a 40-foot cliff into the ocean for some adventurous fun.

* Rose Hall Great House, St. James. The story behind Rose Hall is one filled with mystery, death, ghosts and intrigue. The house was built in 1770. For many years, it was the home of John Rose Palmer. His wife Annie Palmer was known as "The Witch of Rose Hall" since she was believed to actively practice voodoo. She had a nasty reputation for her ruthlessness. It has been said that she murdered her husband John Palmer, two other husbands after him, countless slaves and her lovers, as well. Annie was eventually found dead in her bedroom in Rose Hall in 1831, and her death was deemed a mystery. The house is said to be haunted by her spirit to this very day. If you're the sort that is into haunted houses and ghostly encounters, this is the best place in Jamaica for that.

* Blue Mountain Peak, St. Andrew. If you're looking for one of the most spectacular views of Jamaica, Blue Mountain Peak delivers. Rising to an elevation of 7,000 feet, both coasts of the island can be viewed at the summit. You can hike and bike through tropical rainforests and coffee plantations with exquisite mountain views. This mountain offers pure Jamaica beauty firsthand. This might be best to save for last. It is a great way to top off any Jamaican vacation, and they grow the best coffee in the world there too!
