Those who buy Merida Real Estate are buying much more than just a Mexico Home. While the homes in Yucatan Real Estate's largest city offer buyers excellent, high-quality choices in a beautiful colonial city, at accessible prices, once home owners live in Merida, they will also discover the city's rich culture and history in a real way. One aspect of Merida's culture and history which residents have recently enjoyed is the annual Carnival. While the Carnival has many strong traditions worldwide, Merida's residents celebrate their own long-standing tradition with this event.

From its origins in the Middle Ages, when people used to give free rein to the fun and joy during the week before Lent, the Carnival has been a popular holiday that is still celebrated in many parts of the world. The "Festival of Meat" (etymologically, the word carnival is derived from Italian "carne ...
... vale," which means "farewell meat"), in which people literally got sick of eating meat, came to an end with the beginning of Lent, the 40 days of recollection and reflection that precede Easter. During this time it was forbidden to consume meat, throw parties and participate in other forms of entertainment, the people lived in penance and the spiritual dominated daily life.

Today, Carnival is still a popular festival dominated by joy, fun and celebrations which distantly reflects its roots. Merida is one of the cities to hold a large Carnival celebration with a week of festivities. People come out to see floats with people who throwing streamers, flowers and confetti. The musical rhythms that are included in the festival are mambo, cha-cha-cha and cumbia.

Real Estate in Merida presents an excellent way for non-Mexicans to have close contact with the culture and history of the Carnival, as well as many other traditions co-existing in the city. In addition the beautiful colonial architecture and Carnival reflecting Merida's European influences, there is also close contact with Mayan culture. Home owners have many pyramid sites to visit nearby, both seeing and learning about this ancient civilization. Also, the city includes restaurants which serve modern Mayan food, and once real estate buyers have settled into their new Merida home, they may also wish to try taking a Mayan class - they will probably hear the modern version of this ancient language in the streets of the city.

Day to day life in Merida is never dull; residents will find things to do and capture their interest in an ongoing basis, as they enjoy life their new home.
