Valentine's Day is here and it seems rose farmers, small-scale exporters and SME horticulturists will have a more gala this season than the love birds themselves, thanks to the increased demand for roses in chief Western as well as domestic markets.

In the run-up to V-day, the demand for roses is soaring and in the process ushering in good fortune for SME horticulture exporters and rose farmers. Small-scale rose farmers and horticulturists are anticipating major surge in sale of roses and in turn in their revenues with demand from the US and European markets showcasing an upward rise by almost 25 percent this year.

Rose Suppliers making most of the V-day fever

The strong demand for roses in the overseas markets gets reflected in the export figures. Pune, the largest exporting hub in India, currently exports nearly 45-50 lakh roses' stems.

The strong demand is also helping small rose exporters big way as this helps fetch good prices. As per industry estimates, rose exporters are getting around Rs 13-20 for each rose stem while a bunch of roses is currently fetching the domestic growers about Rs.100.

Every year good sentiment prevails during Valentine's Day and this year is no exception. And with increased demand in the local and export markets, fantastic sales and fabulous returns are on the cards, informed a manager of a small-sized company in Pune.

Also, rose suppliers predict that demand for roses may out do the supply on V-day especially, though the rates are likely to mount on that particular day.
