Boston Red Sox is a Major League Baseball team that has been one of the most formidable teams over the last six years. They have won the coveted World Series title two times during this period. However, not so long ago, Red Sox was considered one of the cursed teams in the league. Reason: the team had failed to win even a single championship between 1918 and 2004. Here is an overview of its achievements in the early years.

Well Begun Is Not Always Half Done

Red Sox was one of the charter member teams when the American League was formed in 1903. (For those who want to know, in 2000 American League merged with National League, which had been in existence since 1876, to form Major League Baseball). The team used to play in the American League Eastern Division, a division that also featured perhaps the most illustrious contemporary baseball team in the country, New York Yankees. They play their home games in Fenway Park.

After winning five league titles in the first 15 years of the league, they had slumped to one of longest ever lean periods in the history of sports leagues in the country. After 1918, it took ...
... them 86 years to win the next league title.

The First Title

Boston Red Sox won the very first American League title in 1903. They defeated Pittsburgh Pirates in the first ever World Series show down. Pirates were the overwhelming favorites to win the best of nine games series. However, Red Sox ensured their place in the baseball league history by getting better off the Pirates in eight games (5-3).

Greatest Ever Team

Boston Red Sox next won the league title in 1912. It was perhaps their second most famous victory (wthe most famous victory would come in 2004 when they won the league title after a gap of 86 years). The Red Sox team of 1912 is still considered by many as one of the best ever teams in the league. It had some of the finest players, such as Smoky Joe Wood, Harry Hooper, Duffy Lewis, and Tris Speaker. They beat New York Giants 4-3 in the World Series.

Three More Titles

Three years later, in 1915, they won the World Series again by defeating Philadelphia Phillies in one of the most lopsided series ever. The final score was 4-1. Tris Speaker, a main stay in the line-up, left the team in the next season. However, there was no stopping for the Pilgrims, as the team was then nicknamed. Boosted by the induction of Babe Ruth, they won the next year's league title too. This time they defeated Brooklyn Robbins in the World Series. Babe Ruth continued his good form in 1918, when he starred in the team's victory over Chicago Cubs in the World Series.

Recent Years

After that victory, the fans and the team had to wait agonizingly for another 86 years to win the next league title. After the famous victory in 2004, Red Sox has been performing extremely well. As a result, the popularity of the team has surged and the fan base got expanded too. It is evident from the rising ticket sales and demands for tickets for the team's games. Authorized ticket selling websites, which are always trusted by people, enjoy increased traffic on the eve of the team's games.
