Your Car Insurance Assessment

When you take out a car insurance policy, there are quite a few questions they will ask you and details they will require. They will want to know when you obtained your drivers license, if you have been in any previous accidents and who will be driving your motor vehicle besides yourself. A lot of the information they will take off of their computer system, where records are universally kept regarding your traffic offences and previous claims submitted through other car insurance companies. They are also able to determine whether you have a criminal record or not, using this computer system, and will also be able to see how good your credit score is.
Besides this personal history that they can find on online through records, they will also have a database regarding the kind of motor vehicle you drive. When you sign up for your auto insurance policy they will naturally ask what make of car you are driving, the model, the year it was made, and whether the car has an alarm system fitted in it or not. They will also ask whether any enhancements have been made to your motor vehicle. Regardless of what answers you give to these ...
... questions, the premium will be determined by the statistics and data they have on record for the kind of motor vehicle you are driving. For example, they will know whether the kind of car you are driving is a higher theft risk. They will know what kind of alarm and security systems are fitted standard into your vehicle. They will have statistics on how safe your vehicle is, and whether the kind of car is more commonly involved in motor vehicle accidents.
So it is clear to see that the car insurance company will have their own records on your kind of vehicle, and will be able to base their statistics on what your premium should be. But they cannot do this without first having the motor vehicle assessed. The reason for this is that anyone can say that their vehicle has a good alarm system, whereby it does not actually have one. If it is stolen, then they have been paying a cheaper premium for a car that was not properly secured, but the insurance company still has to pay out. Furthermore, they need to assess the vehicle to ensure there is no existing damage which you could try and claim for at a later stage. Any scratches and dents will be noted. Also, the safety of your vehicle will be taken into consideration; this being whether the windscreen wipers are optimally functioning and whether your tires are in good condition. Some people insure their vehicle's sound system, so at the time of assessment they will check to make sure you have not overvalued your car radio. In addition to all this, the vehicle will be checked for any performance enhancements.
It is easy to see why it is so important to take your motor vehicle to be assessed as soon as you have taken out your insurance cover. Until you have had this assessment done, your coverage will not be complete, and if you are involved in a collision you risk not having your claim paid out!
