4. Recreating A Study
With the overwhelming task of a dissertation looming over them, some may choose to try a shortcut. They may do this by copying the ideas they see within other works. This is highly unethical and may get them barred from working any further. Plus, it would ruin their reputation within academic circles.

There is no doubt that reading other successful dissertations would help you in writing one of your own. However, there is a difference between taking inspiration and simply lifting the whole idea out of a work.

Hence, it is best to make sure that while you can borrow the start of an idea, you have to make it your own. What would make your dissertation valuable is the unique touch you give to it. This could be in the form of a new way of looking at things or a whole new conclusion altogether.
