Are you aware of your vehicles fluids and the interval they should be changed? Most everyone knows about the engine oil and filter. Most of the more common oils will need to be changed every 3,000 miles along with the filter. With newer technology some engine oils have developed synthetic blends and 100% synthetic fluids. These newer formulas claim that you can travel up to 5,000 - 7,500 miles before changing your oil. Regardless how many miles you have traveled, checking your fluids essential, not only for the proper level but to recognize the state of the fluid, such as color and consistency. It is very important that you check your Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF). The color of ATF is a deep red. Over time and mileage ATF will become darker but will retain its reddish tint. ... smell it is a sign that a component within the transmission is slipping and actually causing the ATF to burn. If you notice that your fluid is very dark you may want to visit a reputable transmission shop to determine what your problem is and how to resolve it.
The next fluid to watch is your coolant. Antifreeze can be both green and orange. Over time coolant can become contaminated and needs to be changed when flushing the radiator. Antifreeze not only is designed to keep the motor from freezing it keeps the engine cool in the summer as well.
