Pillar Rocks Kodaikanal – Interesting Spot In The Palani Hills, Kodaikanal

The great Pillar Rocks of Palani Hills, Kodaikanal, is one of the most prominent tourist spots in that area. It is located around 8 kms from Kodaikanal bus stand.
The pilgrims who visit Palani temple can reach Pillar Rocks by road. and it is around two hours (71.9 km) if we take via Palani-Kodaikanal Road. Many buses frequently ply from Palani to Kodaikanal.
Pillar Rocks derived its name from the three giant pillars standing tall at a height of 400 feet. It is an ideal place for both family outing as well as those who love photography. It is regarded as a place to visit to those who venture out to the Palani Hills. The lush greenery covering some part of the rocks is quite attractive to visitors. The word ‘Devil’s Kitchen’ is associated with these rocks which is a dark chamber between the pillars. There is a beautiful garden around the pillars where you could see variety of colorful flowers. No fee is charged to visit this place but visitors are not allowed after 5pm.

Coakers walk: It got its name from Lt. Coaker who ...
... constructed this stretch in the year 1872. The Coakers walk stretches over one km in the southern side of Kodai on the edge of steep slopes from Van Allen hospital to St.Peters church. Dolphin’s nose in south, valley of the Pambar river in South East, birds eye view of Periyakulam and city of Madurai are the few sights one can catch at this high point.
Silent Valley: This is the considered to be the highest point in Kodaikanal and is 7,500m above sea level. Early morning is the ideal time to visit this spot. With mist covering the whole place, it stands out to be a blissful feeling to be in.
Kodai Lake: This is among the most popular places in Kodaikanal and more often than not visitors come to here first after they reach Kodaikanal. This lake was made possible Vera Levinge (retired Madurai collector) in 1863. After his retirement, when he settled in Kodaikanal he converted this place which was a waste marshy land into a lake. He also brought boats from Tuticorin for the visitors to have a boating session. The lake is spread over 60 acres and surrounded by fine tarred road of five kms length, the maximum depth of the lake was considered as 11.5m. The other main entertainments include pony ride, cycling and fishing.
Kodaikanal is the land of tourists but these are few places which we are mentioning here.It is a best place to visit both as family as well as for group visits. The ideal time will be during the months between April to June. Nevertheless lakhs of tourists visit the place throughout the year.
