A fork lift is a trailer loader or stack truck used in freight docks, warehousing set up, manufacturing /textile units, construction site, industrial and mining purposes. Care should be taken while operating it in risky areas. Workers around boom conveyors must be aware about its functioning and should know what to do and what not to do.

The operators should know about their work place. If it is a construction site, they should know where are the pot holes, hills, drop offs, walls and slippery area. They must be cautious about any drop offs and avoid these obstacles while transporting your load to a safe place. Workers should stay away from these boom conveyers as they have a stretched out equipment which retracts and extends. You can't have both bystanders as well as trailer loader operator staying on in the same way. This will lead to mishaps and may claim lives. Stay away from it!

The operator must be aware of certain things while driving them. He should not jut out his head or stretch out his limbs or arms. In case he does that he may hit against the objects outside and may crush his head when exposed to the ...
... falling objects. It is advisable they stay inside the truck and operate from with in, with their head, feet and hands inside the vehicle.

Employer must ensure that his powered industrial trucks and its operators must meet the standards of Health and Safety Act. The work force must be well equipped and skilled in order to handle the trucks in a hassle free manner. If the driver has adequate knowledge about the operation and safety measures of powered industrial trucks he can avert a catastrophic situation. Also, make sure that these trucks and its parts are maintained well. A thorough supervision of the vehicle and its parts is required before setting off to work.

Most incidents also involve property damage, including damage to overhead sprinklers, racking, pipes, walls, and machinery. Unfortunately, most employee injuries and property damage can be attributed to lack of safe operating procedures, lack of safety-rule enforcement, and insufficient or inadequate training. One may be seriously injured or killed if the proper forklift safety protocol is not followed. Forklift operators must stay in the cab of the lift at all times, the need to know how much weight the forks can handle, they need to be aware of their surroundings at all times.
