The Impact of The Evolution Of Civilization On Fashion Design
Each era has been witness to the changes in fashion occurring parallel to changes in society. Cultural and societal changes bled into every corner of society changing the fabric of society, quite literally. Since the beginning, the central hub for fashion evolution has been in Europe, primarily localized in Italy and France. The greatest time for acceptance of the new was during the Renaissance period, which gave birth to new ideas in science, art and fashion. The freedom we live with today, which we often take for granted, was made possible by brave individuals who set out to break through patterns, cultures and traditions. Every societal revolution throughout history has paved the path for changes to happen in fashion simultaneously.

Fashion Over Time

Looking back in history you can see necklines lowering and hemlines rising. Freedom in fashion is one of the few ways a person can take the liberty of expressing themselves freely and their individuality. Many of the fashion icons of today once were unknown and only became who they are ...
... today, by boldly moving forward and pushing their designs into the world, without fear, which is why they are role models for upcoming fashion designers. Taking the courageous step to follow your passions in the realm of fashion design is easier today than ever before. With so many people in the world and each with their own tastes and style, there is plenty of room for fashion designers of every kind to cater to each individual need with their own style targeting the different groups of people.

Just as each an artist’s painting speaks to each individual so does the unique style and design of each designer. With the imagination free to create designs of any style, cut, color, fabric etc, the creative potential for each designer is limitless and only bound by their own willingness to boldly create new styles and designs, creating trends and breaking through the norm.

Boom Of Fashion Designers

It was only at the turn of the century, that dramatic changes started happening in the realm of fashion. Prior to this time, modesty was heavily set in the minds of the people, until a few bold designers decided to unleash their new cuts and designs into the world, thus slowly making way for the various fashions we embrace today. In India, our fashion styles were limited to our traditional dresses of sarees, selvar kameez and kurtas. However, as borders started disappearing with the dawn of the internet and a new era was given birth, fashions from all over the world blended into every culture and country. Each culture adopted the existing fashions and modified it, thus making it unique by blending it with their own ethnic dresses.

The tailoring shops that each small suburb had, no longer made just saree blouses, selvar kameez and children’s dresses. A new group of tailors/designers started emerging, creating new designs and styles and altering traditional clothes to create new fashions. They embraced their passion for fashion designing and unleashed their creativity. These little boutiques, which have multiplied, in the past couple of decades, have cropped up all over the city, creating new career paths that did not exist. Fashion designing became a new choice of career that young people started embracing by flooding to the fashion design schools that rose up in the cities. The dawn of the internet era and the growing IT sector created opportunities that did not exist before, since the spending power of the people increased. This opened up paths deviating from the normal engineering, doctor and lawyer lines. Young, passionate and creative individuals now could more easily pursue their dreams, just as the famous designers of the past, such as, Chanel, Gucci, Armani and many others did many decades ago.

As the city bears witness to and embraces the latest and trendiest fashions created by young designers, the opportunities available for creative passionate individuals to unleash their imaginations on the world with bold patterns, textures, colors and styles is evident in the variety of fashions adorned by the thousands in the city, who wear the clothes that define their unique style created by young enthusiastic fashion designers, who boldly chased their dreams by choosing to enter into fashion design schools and learning everything they can so that their creative potential could be reached, creating contentment and peace in their lives, which was unavailable to many in the generations before them.
