Remote Desktop Services (RDS) is a technology that allows multiple users to access applications, data or virtual desktops located on a central server.

With RDS, administrators need to install QuickBooks once in order to make it available for use by multiple users on multiple machines.

They experience the same environment as they are using it locally but with much higher performance, thanks to the scalability of the server.

We can summarize 5 reasons why businesses use QuickBooks RDS :

● Streamline IT services - RDS simplifies the setup and further maintenance of QuickBooks. The system administrators can quickly give access to the users by setting it up on the server.

The updates also needs to be downloaded on the server computer, not individually. Further, you do not need to change the hardware or software (OS). The server will take care of all this.

Thus, you will be saving more on IT infrastructure. Other basic utilities like Acrobat Reader, Excel will be downloaded on the server itself . You don't have to do it particularly.

● Faster and Reliable ...
... - There are some huge differences which make the QuickBooks running on RDS way better than the original ones.

QuickBooks that is not running on RDS has a server along with workstations or warehouses who all should have QuickBooks and related applications on it.

A remote user connects to one of the workstations in order to make the work done. The problem is the efficiency.

If one of the intermediate workstations gets faulty, the whole line can become corrupt which can cause speed loss or even data loss in some cases as the speed here is dependent upon the slowest connection in the series.

On the other side, QuickBooks running on RDS has a centralized server which has all the files and applications related to QuickBooks. The users don’t need to download them individually. The speed is controlled centrally and since the data is there on the server always, it can also be prevented.

● Better and more cost effective remote access - RDS in comparison with other remote access services is very fast and optimized. RDS makes it possible for multiple users to provide access just by using a single thread. There is no need of tied up workstations like other remote access services.

● Enhanced Security - Protecting confidential documents is an important aspect of every business. It ensures that the system administrator must grant specific level of access to each user who can log into the server.

The system administrator can determine which applications on the server are available to each employee. This concludes that several employees may be given access to the server for other purposes but QuickBooks Enterprise can be restricted to only those who need to use it.

Furthermore, QuickBooks administrators can also establish application level permissions to specify which functions individually. QuickBooks users can access and the type of access they should have, such as view-only, create, modify, delete and print.

With RDS, companies are able to further reduce the risk of data being lost or stolen. Each user must log in to establish a session with the server.

Subsequently, QuickBooks data is never directly transmitted outside the server, and therefore, chances of it being intercepted are lowered. Also, because the data resides on the server, compromised laptops should not contain copies of the company data file.

● More Control - RDS gives system administrators more control over QuickBooks. The application and company data file are maintained in an environment which is only accessible by administrators.
