A preschool teacher along with her colleagues spends most of her/his time teaching and handling a bunch of tiny tots at the school. As they go on doing their duty, and fostering relationships among students, it is also necessary to maintain a friendly and cordial relation with coworkers. This ensures a positive atmosphere in the school and often leads to improvement in teaching methods. When teachers build positive relationships with colleagues, it dissipates tension and the need to ostracize others. As a result, the learning environment becomes more productive and makes school a better place. Here are ways a preschool teacher must consider to enhance relationships with colleagues.

Applaud accomplishments

While handling the young kids is no easy task, a teacher might feel dejected when he/she does not get the much-deserved appreciation for handling hyperactive kids during a school function. It can also affect the working style of an individual and even decline his/her productivity in the classroom. Hence, it is important to celebrate the achievements even if it means making use of simple gestures. You can acknowledge ...
... the work done by appreciating a specific teacher in front of the entire staff, personally deliver an appreciation note or congratulate the teacher for winning an award from the school.

Be ready to volunteer when necessary

It often happens that at a certain time, the little ones go out of control and might even turn cranky when found in new situations. This is a common scene when the child is starting school, a group of kids have wrecked havoc at annual gathering or other special events at school. When a teacher offers to help in such conditions, it not only demonstrates empathy but also reduces the workload in difficult times. For example, when a teacher gives an extra pair of hands during a field trip, it helps to manage the students more effectively.

Connect outside the classroom

While you might be meeting your colleagues daily in the school, it is essential that you connect with them beyond your school. Add them on your social media account and encourage sharing of blogs and tools that might prove useful in your school. Getting connected on a digital platform gives you more freedom to share your thoughts and also understand the perspective of others. You can even tell the teachers about a workshop or seminar that has been organized near your school and will prove helpful in the profession. Meeting your colleagues on a team lunch or one-day trip can help you to know about their hobbies, families and dreams.

Work together for activities

If you are planning to start a new weekly activity in your school, invite other teachers to be a part of it. This will help in building team spirit and also encourage others to contribute their point of view on the topic as well as develop trust among coworkers. The activity can be anything related to improving performance of weak students, conducting parental guidance sessions or recreation for students but involving others will help to develop collaborative and firm relations with colleagues. It will also give you satisfactory results that you might not have achieved if the task was carried out alone.

Encourage feedback

Even if you are a senior teacher and have been working for years, always allow other teachers to voice their opinion on particular subjects related to school. Motivating them to discuss topics of concern freely can bring out things that you might have failed to notice. Also, while doing so, follow the basic manners and include 'thank you' or 'please' in your conversations when required.

When teachers work in collaboration with each other, it benefits the school as well as helps in inculcating a sense of team spirit in students. To have strong relations with coworkers, preschool teachers must be willing to listen to others and participate in team activities outside school, which will help in increasing the bond with colleagues.
