Sydney Case Shows Need For Electrician Training Courses

A legal case in Sydney, Australia has highlighted the importance of tradespersons who It have taken electrical training courses.

was recently revealed by New South Wales Fair Trading that an unqualified electrician, Ferras Aridah, who performed illegal work on 19 commercial and residential units between 2006 and 2008, has been made to pay fines and costs of AU$42,000 (£23,300).

He also used a license number belonging to someone else, leading to him being convicted of five offences under the Electricity (Consumer Safety) Act 2004, the Electricity (Consumer Safety) Regulation 2006 and the Home Building Act 1989.

Commenting on the announcement, the National Electrical and Communications Association's chief executive Lindsay Le Compte stated that she was pleased.

"The prosecution of unlicensed and unqualified people who undertake electrical work is welcomed by the industry," she said.

She added that the case should show members of the public that they are putting that lives at risk by employing workers who have not taken electrical courses and do not have approved electrical qualifications.
