Burn The Floor - The Theatre Reviews
The Latin and Ballroom dance extravaganza at Longacre Theatre on Broadway has pleased dancing enthusiasts. Burn The Floor, choreographed and directed by the former World Champion Latin and Ballroom dancer Jason Gilkison, has been touring the world for the past 10 years and has performed in more than 30 countries, since its debut in 1999 at England.
The performances on Broadway never disappoint dance fans. The cast has been selected to include dancers from the popular "Dancing With the Stars" and "So You Think You Can Dance" in the United States. Suddenly everyone is going crazy for dancing!
The Cast
Though Burn The Floor opened officially on Aug 2, 2009 and was slated for a limited 12 week run, the performance show that started from July 25 has been extended beyond 2009 to perform up to Jan 3, 2010. For the first three weeks the performances included only Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Karina Smirnoff of the "Dancing With the Stars" fame.
The others in the cast are:
Henry Bayalikov ("Superstars of Dance")
Sharna Burgess ("So You Think You Can Dance")
Anya Garnis ("So You Think You ...
... Can Dance")
Pasha Kovalev ("So You Think You Can Dance")
Sarah Hives ("Dancing with the Stars")
Peta Murgatroyd ("Dancing with the Stars")
Trent Widdon (Australia's "Dancing with the Stars")
Kevin Clifton (International IDSF Open Champion)
Sasha Farber (three-time Junior & Youth Latin Australian Champion)
Jeremy Garner (six-time Australian Amateur Latin finalist)
Gordana Grandosek (Italian Open Champion)
Patrick Helm (Welsh Open Champion)
Melanie Hooper (two-time Australian Professional Latin Champion)
Giselle Peacock (four-time U.S Champion)
Sarah Soriano (British Open Championship - Youth Latin American)
Damon & Rebecca Sugden (three-time Asian Pacific Ballroom Champions)
Damian Whitewood (Australasian Champion) and
Robin Windsor (Ballroom & Latin International finalist)
The performances have received rave reviews from many though not everyone. This, however, depends on whether one is a regular theatre-goer or a dance enthusiast with knowledge of Tango, Samba, Mambo, Quickstep and Swing, and rest of the dances.
Burn The Floor is worth the time and the money you spend on it. This is high voltage dancing, full of energy. Dancing to the great tunes, both live and recorded, the dancers dazzle you with their waltz, fox trot, tango, cha-cha, samba, rumba, the boogie-woogie, and lots more.
