Nagaland - The Land Of Festivals

Nagaland officially became a state on 1st of December, 1963. It borders its land with Assam and Arunachal Pradesh in the North, Manipur in the South, Myanmar in the East and Assam again in the West. There are 11 Administrative districts in Nagaland.
There are 16 major tribes in Nagaland, each with their own distinct customs, attires and language. They are Angami, Ao, Chakhesang, Chang, Dimasa Kachari, Khiamniungan, Konyak, Kuki, Lotha, Phom, Pochury, Rengma, Sangtam, Sumi, Yimchunger and Zeliang. Moreover there are many sub tribes which can be distinguished by their unique and beautiful attires and vibrant jewellery. Each tribe has their own unique festival for which Nagaland is considered as the “Land of Festivals”. The Government of Nagaland’s State Tourism and Art & Culture organizes the Hornbill Festival each year in the first week of the month of December. In this festival, all the tribes gather in order to showcase the heritage of their tribes. It also enables tourists to see all the different tribes of Nagaland at one place.
