Microsoft has really started paying attention to all the security issues lately. It has now warned the users of internet explorer about another tentative zero day attack. Though the in-house users have yet not detected any such attacks or the exploitation of the newly found security hole. The tech giants also commented that it was highly difficult trying to locate another fault while they are working on the other patch. They said that a lot of work and brains went through even in developing patches. The company has forehand declared the details of the issue in concern in the Security Advisory (980088). The security advisory has detailed out all the measures that can be taken by them to protect themselves from all the potential exploits. These would be a great help before the software tech releases any security update that deals with the new upcoming issues

Jerry Bryant the senior security communications manager at Microsoft stated that the most vulnerable systems are the ones that have Xp along with Internet explorer running on them. He further said that if the users have also turned off the protect mode of the browser ...
... are more at risk. Still there is silver lining; even a heavy exploit of the Internet Explorer the hacker will not be able to take complete control of the victim's computers or will not be able to execute any codes or run any malicious program on the users system. He said all the users need not panic, as the customers who have Windows Vista or Windows 7 on their PC and are running the Internet Explorer 7 or 8 are safe from another critical zero-day attack. This is because these combinations of the OS and the browser are benefitted from the internet explorer protected mode.

The protect mode that is an added security improvement which was introduced in the Windows Vista. This feature has been carried forward to Windows 7. Only it was modified to function along with the User Account Control. This feature actually cuts down the privileges of any unauthorized user to access the system. Jerry Bryant further stated that the investigation they conducted have shown that the users who are using the version of Internet explorer that are not running in the product mode are highly vulnerable to the attacks of the hacker. The versions that include the vulnerability are the Internet Explorer the 5.01 Internet Explorer 5.01 Service Packs 4 that runs on the Windows 2000 Service Pack 4, and the further editions of Internet Explorer of that are supported by the Windows Xp Service Pack 2 and Service Pack 3. The protected mode actually prevents the exploitation of any vulnerability that has been detected lately. Hence, it has been running by default on the Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008.
